How to Add a CNAME Record to Your DNS Provider

Using a custom domain for your website is the perfect way to establish a strong brand identity and give your website a professional touch. This step-by-step guide will give you a comprehensive yet simple walkthrough on how to add a CNAME record to your DNS provider, which is essential to point the custom domain of your choice to your website on our Khaime.
Preliminary Step
Must have decided on the custom domain name of your choice
Must have purchased the domain name from a domain registrar. Popular ones include Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, GO54 (formerly Whogohost) etc
Once you’ve completed the 2 steps above, you can proceed to connecting your domain
Step 1: Locate DNS Settings
Login to your domain registrar where you purchased or manage your domain (e.g., Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, GO54 (formerly Whogohost)
Navigate to the DNS settings: Look for this section/menu under names like:
DNS Settings
Domain Management
Manage DNS
Advanced DNS Settings
Step 2: Add a New CNAME Record
On the DNS settings page, look for an option like Add Record or Create New Record.
Record Type: Select CNAME from the available types of records.
Host or Name: Enter the subdomain you want to connect to. For example, if you want www.movane.com to point to your website, enter www as the host or name.
Value: Here, you’ll enter the CNAME destination that our platform provides you. This will be domains.khaime.com
Step 3: Save Changes and Test Your Domain
Once you’ve filled in the required fields, click Save or Add Record. Your DNS provider will now process the change. Kindly note that DNS changes can take some time to propagate across the web.
After the DNS changes have propagated, visit the custom domain (e.g., www.movane.com) in your browser. If the CNAME record is correctly set up, your domain should now point to your website hosted on our platform (Khaime) and you should see your website as you have set it up on Khaime.
Step 4: Adding Forwarding
Look for an option under DNS settings to add forwarding or redirection and select Domain Forwarding
Step 5: Selecting the Destination URL Protocol
Choose the protocol https:// for the destination URL.
Step 6: Entering the Destination URL
Input the full destination URL where your domain should forward. Ensure it adheres to your domain provider's guidelines.
Step 7: Choosing the Forwarding Type
Permanent (301): This type of redirect is permanent and informs search engines to update their index to the new URL.
Temporary (302): A temporary redirect tells search engines that the redirect may change in the future.
Step 8: Saving the Settings
Once you have configured the forwarding settings, save the changes. The redirection should take effect shortly after.
Self-Support Tips
Propagation Delay: If your custom domain doesn’t seem to be working immediately, give it some time. DNS propagation may take a while depending on your DNS provider. Although this process should be quicker, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours.
Check for Typos: Ensure that there are no extra spaces or incorrect details in your CNAME record, especially in the "Points to" field.
Check DNS Status: You can use online tools like whatsmydns.net to check if your CNAME record has propagated globally.
